Zodiac signs or astrological signs are derived from the sun’s movement across the sky. The sun traces a path called the ecliptic, and along that path certain constellations reside. It is from these constellations that we derive zodiac signs and meanings.
The path of the ecliptic is 360 degrees, and that 360 degree path is roughly divided by the 12 constellations, creating the 12 signs of the zodiac.
The word zodiac means circle of animals, and comes from Greek and Latin roots.
Zodiac signs in astrology are universal and timeless archetypes that underpin life on earth. So rather than a black and white description, zodiac signs point at underlying truth and universal themes.
